Erdogan coordinates with Pakistan and Qatar to push for lasting regional peace

Türkiye Intensifies Diplomatic Efforts to Consolidate Iran Ceasefire

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held separate phone calls with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Qatar’s Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to discuss the Iran ceasefire and broader regional developments.

During talks with Sharif, Erdoğan commended Pakistan’s mediation role in facilitating the truce between Iran and its adversaries. He stressed that the current two-week ceasefire represents a critical window that must be effectively utilized to achieve durable peace and regional stability. Sharif, in turn, praised Türkiye’s diplomatic engagement, as both leaders exchanged views on the latest developments surrounding the agreement.

In his conversation with the Qatari emir, Erdoğan underlined that the ceasefire offers a significant opportunity for de-escalation. He cautioned that this window “must not be squandered,” urging all parties to leverage the pause in hostilities to advance comprehensive diplomatic efforts. He also reaffirmed Ankara’s commitment to supporting dialogue and long-term stability in the region.

Erdoğan conveyed condolences to Qatar over recent attacks and commended Doha’s calm and constructive response amid rising tensions.

These diplomatic engagements come against a backdrop of heightened regional instability following U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28, and subsequent Iranian retaliatory attacks targeting Israel and countries hosting U.S. military assets. Tehran also imposed restrictions on maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital corridor for global energy supplies.

With Pakistan’s mediation, the United States and Iran have agreed to a temporary ceasefire, while further negotiations aimed at reaching a lasting settlement are scheduled to take place in Islamabad.
