Türkiye, Azerbaijan sign $500M defence deals including 14 Hurkus-II aircraft

Türkiye and Azerbaijan have signed defence agreements worth more than $500 million, including a contract for 14 Hurkus-II trainer aircraft, Türkiye’s Defence Industries President Haluk Gorgun said.The agreements were signed during the Azerbaijan International Defence Exhibition 2026 in Baku as the two countries seek to deepen defence industry cooperation.Gorgun said on Wednesday the deals would strengthen bilateral defence capabilities and build on cooperation between Türkiye and Azerbaijan during natural disasters, wars and other emergencies.The package includes procurement contracts with Turkish Aerospace Industries for Hurkus aircraft, Baykar for Mizrak smart loitering munitions and Antidot systems, and Roketsan for the Barbaros Coastal Defence System.Aselsan also signed a memorandum of understanding for the supply of ALP-100 radar systems.Expanding defence cooperationGorgun said the 14 Hurkus-II aircraft would be delivered to Azerbaijan this year, alongside deliveries to Türkiye's air force.The agreements also cover education, research and local production.

Türkiye's Council of Higher Education and Defence Industries Presidency signed an academic cooperation memorandum with Azerbaijan's Defence Industry Ministry and Science and Education Ministry.Aselsan and NOVASIS signed a preliminary agreement to establish a factory in Nakhchivan, while several Turkish and Azerbaijani defence companies signed agreements covering research, development, logistics and radio-frequency systems.“We will train our engineers together with brotherly Azerbaijan.

Local production and joint projects will be steps that strengthen our bonds of brotherhood,” Gorgun said.
