Ankara engages key global actors to push for de-escalation amid rising regional and economic turmoil

Türkiye Leads Urgent Diplomatic Efforts on Iran Crisis

Türkiye has intensified its diplomatic engagement to address the escalating conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel, with Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan initiating a series of high-level contacts aimed at exploring solutions to end the war.

According to diplomatic sources, Fidan held separate discussions with his Iranian and Egyptian counterparts, as well as with senior officials from the United States and the European Union. The talks focused on possible steps toward de-escalation, though specific outcomes remain undisclosed.

The diplomatic initiative comes at a time of mounting global concern. Iran’s effective restriction of the Strait of Hormuz—a vital route for global oil and liquefied natural gas shipments—has disrupted energy flows, driving up shipping costs and fueling volatility in international markets.

The crisis has deepened following a joint US-Israeli military campaign launched in late February, which has resulted in significant casualties and heightened geopolitical tensions. In response, Iran has carried out drone and missile strikes across multiple countries hosting US military assets, further destabilizing the region and impacting global trade and aviation.

Türkiye’s active mediation underscores its strategic positioning as a key diplomatic actor seeking to contain a conflict with far-reaching consequences for global security and the economy.
