Sudanese army says it has repelled RSF attacks in Kordofan, Darfur

The Sudanese army says it has repelled multiple attacks by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces across Kordofan and Darfur, claiming to have inflicted heavy losses over the past 24 hours

According to the army, RSF launched a large-scale assault on positions in Al Tina, which was repelled after intense fighting. The military said dozens of RSF fighters were killed, with 35 vehicles destroyed and 49 seized

Another attack in Al Dilling was also pushed back, with additional vehicles destroyed and communication equipment captured

The army further reported that its air defences shot down a “hostile strategic drone” over Al Obeid, while describing a “fierce battle” in Bara before its forces repositioned outside the city. The RSF, however, has claimed control of Bara following the clashes

The fighting is part of a broader conflict in Sudan that began in April 2023 between the army and the RSF over plans to integrate the paramilitary group into the national military

In recent weeks, violence has intensified in Kordofan and Darfur, forcing tens of thousands of civilians to flee. The war has created one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises, with tens of thousands killed and nearly 13 million people displaced
