Global Leaders Debate Communication, Legitimacy, and Crisis Diplomacy

STRATCOM 2026 Opens in Istanbul

The International Strategic Communication Summit (STRATCOM) 2026 began Friday in Istanbul, bringing together leaders, ministers, diplomats, and communication experts to address global instability, mediation diplomacy, digital transformation, and legitimacy challenges in the international system.

Organized by Türkiye’s Communications Directorate, the summit featured six panels on its opening day. Discussions ranged from disinformation and declining trust in global institutions to mediation diplomacy and the role of digital ecosystems in shaping public opinion.

Speakers from Türkiye, Syria, Bangladesh, Kazakhstan, the UK, Egypt, and others emphasized transparency, cultural ties, women’s participation in peace processes, and the risks of AI-driven disinformation. Calls for UN reform, accountability, and strategic autonomy were echoed across panels.

Climate diplomacy also emerged as a priority, with experts stressing that the climate crisis is now a political and security issue requiring stronger communication strategies and actionable commitments.

The summit continues with further panels on governance, resilience, and global cooperation, positioning Istanbul as a hub for dialogue on strategic communication in a turbulent era.
