Russian drone strikes on Kiev kill three as Zelenskyy decries 'Shahed terror'

Russian drone strikes targeting the Ukrainian capital Kiev have killed at least three people and wounded more than 10 others, regional authorities announced, as Moscow launched a widespread aerial offensive across the country.A strike hit a local market in the village of Sofiivska Borshchahivka, according to the Kiev regional prosecutor's office, whilst other drone impacts damaged civilian vehicles and ignited major fires across commercial warehouses and office buildings in the capital region.Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy revealed that Russian forces launched 277 attack drones of various models since Saturday, inflicting damage on civilian infrastructure nationwide, including a facility utilised as the official residence of the Saudi Arabian ambassador.De-escalation doubtsIn a statement posted on X, Zelenskyy said the drone wave across Kiev destroyed kindergartens, schools, residential homes, an auto repair facility, and communications infrastructure.Additional strikes struck a sports school in Dnipro and a children's home in the Sumy region."Russia has no military objective whatsoever in doing this – it is purely an attempt to break people and inflict as much harm as possible on our society," Zelenskyy said.He dismissed Moscow's recent diplomatic overtures, arguing they are designed solely to forestall decisive international measures: "If Russia were truly preparing for any real steps toward de-escalation – as it claims, particularly to American negotiators – this wave of 'shahed' terror would not be happening."The Russian Defence Ministry said via Telegram that its forces struck communications and logistics hubs alongside a cargo vessel allegedly ferrying military supplies in Kiev and Odesa, reiterating its stance that it targets only military assets.
