Calls for stronger cooperation and EU expansion at Antalya forum

North Macedonia President Warns of Global Instability

Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova warned that the world is becoming more unstable, with rising security threats and weakening democracy.

Speaking at the Antalya Diplomacy Forum 2026 in Antalya, she said global politics is increasingly driven by power rather than fairness, pointing to growing authoritarianism and inequality.

She highlighted major risks such as cyberattacks, disinformation, and military tensions, noting that global military spending has reached alarming levels. Citing data from Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, she said defense spending hit $2.7 trillion in 2024.

Siljanovska-Davkova also called for reforms within the United Nations, including strengthening the General Assembly and reconsidering the structure of the Security Council. She also supported the idea of appointing a woman as the next UN Secretary-General.

Focusing on the Balkans, she stressed that the region is deeply connected to Europe and should be fully integrated into the European Union. She argued that EU enlargement is not just political but also crucial for regional and global security.

Concluding her remarks, she emphasized that dialogue and negotiations remain the only path to peace and called for stronger commitment to international law.
