Authorities arrest several suspects after foiling a retaliatory assault on a police facility.
Police in Kogi State, Nigeria, say they have prevented an attempted attack on the Obajana Operational Base by suspected criminal groups. Several suspects were arrested during the incident, according to the Nigeria Police Force.
Police spokesperson William Aya said the attack appeared to be a retaliatory move after recent security operations in the state. Earlier in January, police carried out a major operation targeting hideouts and camps believed to be used by terrorists and other criminal groups.
The operation included support from the Nigeria Police Force Air Wing, which conducted precision air strikes against suspected camps. Authorities believe these actions may have triggered sleeper cells to attempt an attack on the police base.
Officers at the facility responded quickly and repelled the attackers. Several suspects were captured during the clash, many with gunshot injuries, while others reportedly fled the area. Security forces are continuing efforts to track down the remaining suspects.
The incident comes during a period of increased violence in parts of Kogi State, including kidnappings and attacks in areas such as Yagba West Local Government Area and Kabba-Bunu.
