Health ministry reports 2,659 killed, over 8,000 injured
The Lebanese Health Ministry said Saturday that Israeli attacks since March 2 have killed 2,659 people and injured 8,183, with 41 deaths reported in the past 24 hours alone. The offensive began after Hezbollah’s retaliation linked to the Iran war and has displaced more than 1 million people. Despite a ceasefire announced on April 17 and extended into May, Israel continues daily violations through airstrikes and demolitions. Israel maintains a “buffer zone” in southern Lebanon, citing security needs against Hezbollah. The violence marks one of the deadliest escalations since the earlier truce in November 2024, underscoring the fragile state of ceasefire agreements and the humanitarian toll of ongoing conflict.
