State probes alleged medical negligence following the tragic death of 21-month-old Nkanu Nnamdi.

Lagos Orders Investigation After Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s Son Dies

The Lagos State government has launched an investigation into alleged medical negligence after the death of Nkanu Nnamdi, the 21-month-old son of acclaimed Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and her husband Dr Ivara Esege, at a private hospital in Lagos. The child reportedly passed away on Wednesday, January 7, after a brief illness.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu directed the Health Facility Monitoring and Accreditation Agency (HEFAMAA) to conduct an independent and transparent investigation. The probe will review clinical protocols, professional conduct, patient safety standards, and the roles of all parties involved. HEFAMAA has already visited the hospital and begun a review of medical records, working alongside the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria and other regulatory bodies.

President Bola Tinubu expressed condolences, describing the loss as “devastating” and offering sympathy to the grieving family. The findings of the investigation will be made public to ensure transparency and accountability.
