Kenya Airways on Tuesday reported a pre-tax loss of 17.93 billion shillings ($138.30 million) in 2025, hurt by falling revenues.
Kenya Airways has reported a pre-tax loss of 17.93 billion shillings ($138.3 million) for 2025, reversing its brief return to profitability the previous year. The airline, which operates a fleet of about 40 aircraft, saw revenues fall to 161.47 billion shillings from 188.50 billion in 2024.
Chief Financial Officer Mary Mwenga explained that the downturn was partly due to three Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner jets being grounded amid global supply chain constraints. The 2024 profit had been boosted by foreign-exchange gains, as the Kenyan shilling strengthened more than 20% against the dollar.
The setback underscores the fragile recovery of one of Africa’s leading carriers, which had celebrated its first pre-tax profit in over a decade just last year.
