Trump has previously called Khamenei’s appointment 'a big mistake,' warning the new leader 'would not last long' without US approval.
Despite media claims, Mojtaba Khamenei, Iran’s newly appointed supreme leader, is reportedly unharmed following the ongoing war with Israel and the United States, officials said on Wednesday.
Yousef Pezeshkian, a government adviser and son of Iran’s president, confirmed on his Telegram channel that Khamenei is “safe and sound,” following earlier reports that described him as a “wounded veteran of the Ramadan war.” State television had suggested an injury but did not provide details.
Mojtaba Khamenei, 56, succeeded his father, Ali Khamenei, who was killed in joint US-Israeli strikes on February 28, sparking conflict across the Middle East. Known for his discretion, Mojtaba has yet to make a public statement or address the nation since assuming leadership on Sunday.
US President Donald Trump has criticized the appointment, questioning Khamenei’s ability to coexist peacefully with the United States.
Reports cited by the New York Times suggested Khamenei had injuries, including to his legs, but Iranian sources say he remains alert and sheltered at a highly secure location with limited communication.
