Landslides and floods devastate multiple counties

Heavy Rains Kill 18 in Kenya

Kenya’s National Police Service confirmed Sunday that 18 people have died as heavy rains triggered landslides and flooding across Tharaka Nithi, Elgeyo‑Marakwet, and Kiambu counties. Homes were destroyed and families displaced as emergency teams carried out search and rescue operations. Authorities warned of worsening conditions during the long rains season, which runs from March to May, and urged residents in high‑risk areas to remain vigilant. The fatalities add to earlier flood incidents this year, including 71 deaths reported nationwide in March.
