"We are trying to extinguish fire before flames grow larger, before the ring of fire spreads further, before more lives are harmed and more blood is shed," Turkish President Erdogan stresses.
Recep Tayyip Erdogan, president of Türkiye, said the country’s position on the conflict involving Iran is clear: Türkiye supports peace and diplomacy rather than war.
Speaking on Wednesday, Erdogan said Ankara is making strong efforts to help stop the fighting and encourage negotiations. According to him, Türkiye is working to ensure that “guns fall silent,” a ceasefire is reached, and dialogue resumes between the parties involved.
He warned that the conflict could spread further if it is not contained quickly, saying the goal is to “extinguish the fire before it grows larger and causes more loss of life.”
Erdogan also criticized the government of Israel and its prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu, saying even some Israelis now blame their leadership for the worsening situation.
The conflict intensified after joint military strikes by the United States and Israel on Iran beginning on February 28. Iranian authorities say the attacks have killed more than 1,300 people, including the country’s former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
Iran has responded with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel as well as several countries in the region, including Jordan and Iraq, where US military assets are located.
