Beijing warns restrictions could disrupt global trade

China Slams US Telecom Certification Plan

China has strongly opposed a proposed move by the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to revoke qualifications of foreign telecom testing and certification bodies from countries without “mutual recognition agreements.” A spokesperson for the Ministry of Commerce accused Washington of abandoning technological neutrality and overstretching national security concerns, saying the plan discriminates against Chinese firms and harms global supply chains. The FCC proposal also includes barring entities on a “Covered List” from operating telecom businesses in the US. Beijing warned the measures could damage both international partners and American industries, urging the US to reverse what it called “wrong practices.” The statement comes just a day after senior Chinese and US officials held talks on stabilizing trade ties ahead of President Donald Trump’s mid‑May visit to China.
