Former heavyweight champion discharged from hospital after highway accident in Nigeria

Boxer Anthony Joshua discharged from hospital after Survives Crash That Killed Two Friends

Former world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua has been discharged from hospital after surviving a serious car accident in southwestern Nigeria that killed two of his close friends.

The accident happened on Monday on the busy highway connecting Lagos and Ibadan. Joshua was travelling with friends Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele when their SUV reportedly hit a stationary truck. Police said the boxer suffered only minor injuries.

According to the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) in Ogun State, early investigations suggest the vehicle was moving too fast and had a tyre burst before crashing. Both of Joshua’s friends died at the scene.

Officials from Lagos and Ogun state governments confirmed that Joshua left the hospital later that week after doctors declared him medically fit to continue recovery at home. Despite being physically stable, officials said he was deeply affected by the loss of his longtime strength coach and personal trainer.

After leaving the hospital, Joshua and his mother visited the funeral home where the bodies of his friends were being prepared for repatriation.

Authorities also said the driver of the car has been questioned by police and could face charges for reckless driving as investigations continue.

Joshua, an Olympic gold medalist and former world champion, recently fought and defeated Jake Paul in a high-profile match. He has also been linked to a possible future fight with fellow British heavyweight champion Tyson Fury.
