Electoral reforms and voter list updates set stage for key parliamentary vote

Algeria Schedules Legislative Elections for July 2026

Algeria is moving toward legislative elections after President Abdelmadjid Tebboune officially called voters to the polls on July 2, 2026.

The decree marks the formal launch of the electoral process, including a revision of voter rolls from April 12 to April 26, in line with constitutional requirements to hold elections ahead of the current legislature’s term expiry.

Recent constitutional changes have also reshaped the role of the ANIE, which will no longer manage logistical aspects of the vote—now assigned to the Interior Ministry—signaling a shift in election administration.

Political parties and independent candidates have roughly one month to finalize and submit their candidate lists, ahead of the 60-day pre-election deadline.

The vote will determine the composition of Algeria’s National People’s Assembly, comprising 407 seats distributed across provinces based on population, while ensuring minimum representation for smaller regions.

The election is expected to be a crucial test of recent reforms and a defining moment for Algeria’s political trajectory.
